Brauche ich Trekking-Schuhe? || Do I need trekking shoes?
Es kommt wieder darauf an, was ihr überhaupt vorhabt. Wenn ihr auch einmal Farmarbeit machen wollt (Wwoofing, Harvesting...) und plant, Wandern zu gehen (z.B. in Nationalparks oder an Küstenwanderstrecken), dann würde ich AUF JEDEN FALL Wanderschuhe mitnehmen. Trekkingschuhe bieten in unebenem Gelände den besten Halt und Stabilität. Zudem habt ihr bei knöchelhohen Schuhen mit dicken Sohlen einen guten Schutz vor stacheligen Sträuchern, spitzen Dingen und Tieren (die meisten Schlangen- und Spinnenbisse gibt es auf Knöchelhöhe oder tiefer).---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It depends on what you are planning to do. Do wo want to try farm work (Wwoofing, harvesting...) or hiking (e.g. in National Parks or on Coastal Tracks), I definitely recommend you to wear ankle-high trekking shoes. Trekking shoes give you the most stability and comfort on long hiking trips. Additionally, ankle-high shoes protect you from sharp things on the floor, bushes or animals (most snake and spider strikes happen ankle-high or below).
Mit oder ohne Organisation? || Go there with or without an organisation?
Wir beide machen das Ganze auf eigene Faust, weil wir von Freunden, die auch in Australien waren, gehört haben, dass eine Organisation wirklich nicht notwendig ist.
Für die Leistungen einer Organisation zahlt man ca 400€ extra. Sie nimmt einem im Vorfeld zwar viel Arbeit ab, jedoch kommt man in Australien angeblich auch gut alleine klar. Und da wir beide eigentlich rechtzeitig das planen angefangen haben, brauchen wir die Leistungen einer Organisation zum Glück nicht in Anspruch zu nehmen und sparen ordentlich Geld :))
Es bleibt jedoch jedem selbst überlassen, was er tut!:)

We are going to Australia without an organisation, because friends, who have worked and travelled, told us it was not necessary.
For the performances of an organisation you pay about 400€ extra. Of course, they take a lot of workload from you before the trip, but after arriving in Down Under, you appearantly don't really need them any more.

Zunächst wollten wir mit Korean Air über Korea nach Australien fliegen. Korean Air hatte eigentlich das beste Open End Ticket vom Preis, den Gabelflügen her etc. (Bei Gabelflügen fliegt man hinwärts von A nach B, jedoch von C zurück nach A).
Dann kamen jedoch die Unruhen zwischen Süd- und Nordkorea auf und wir wollten auf Nummer sicher gehen und ließen Korean Air bleiben. (siehe http://www.reisebine.de/Insider-Tips/australien-fliegen.asp)
Im Reisebüro haben wir uns dann informiert. Die haben uns dann gesagt, dass es eigentlich keine Open End Tickets mehr gibt. Jedoch haben wir über Beziehungen des DER - Reisebüros ein gutes Angebot mit Singapore Airlines bekommen.
Jetzt haben wir:
- die kürzeste Verbindung FRA - BNE
- 3 Wochen Stopover in Singapur heimwärts OHNE AUFPREIS
- eine Umbuchung gratis, jede weitere 25 Dollar (normal 1 Umbuchung über 100€)
- eine der besten Airlines der Welt.
Es ist eigentlich eine Art Open End Ticket, da wir das Rückflugdatum selbst von Australien aus bestimmen können.

At first, we wanted to fly Korean air via Korea to Australia. Korean Air offered the best Open End Ticket, concerning price and possibility for open jaw flights. (Open Jaw Flights: Fly from A to B, fly back to A from C).
Then rumors began to spread and the situation between North and South Korea became increasingly worse. So we wanted to be safe and dumped the idea of flying Korean Air. (look at: http://www.reisebine.de/Insider-Tips/australien-fliegen.asp)
The travel Agent informed us that Open End tickets actually don't exist. But because of the good connections of DER travel agency, we now have a good offer for Singapore Airlines.
We have:
- the shortest Connection FRA - BNE
- 3 weeks stopover in Singapore on our way back NO ADDITIONAL COSTS
- one adjusting entry for free, every additional costs 25 dollars (normally more than 100€)
- one of the best airlines in the world.
Its actually kind of an Open End ticket because we can decide from Australia when to fly home.
1. Nehmt eine gute Airline mit viel Beinfreiheit, gutem Service und Entertainmentsystem. Ihr seid je nach Verbindung mehr als 24 Stunden unterwegs!
2. Wie viel kostet eine Umbuchung? Ist eine Umbuchung gratis dabei? Nicht nur den reinen Flugpreis sondern eventuelle Nebenkosten beachten!
3. Kurze Verbindungen suchen. Ihr habt die Wahl: 38 Stunden oder 24 Stunden unterwegs sein? 1, 2 oder 3 Zwischenlandungen?
4. Freigepäck ist nicht so wichtig. Was nützen 30kg Freigepäck, wenn du es dann im Rucksack durch Australien schleppen musst? Bei australischen LowCost Airlines ist die Gepäckgrenze meistens 15kg. Wenn du schon mit 30kg ankommst bist du an teure Angebote gebunden.
5. Wenn Ihr bei einem Stopover auf dem Rückflug z.B. noch durch Asien reisen wollt, dann sucht am besten eine Verbindung über Südostasien. Von dort aus gibt es auch gute und günstige Flugverbindungen (z.B. AirAsia) nach ganz Asien. (Hin und Rückflug nach Bali von Singapur ca. 100€, von Peking viel teurer). Es kommt jedoch darauf an wo ihr hinwollt.

Some things that were important to us:
1. Take a good airline with lots of legroom, good service and entertainment system. You travel more than 24 hours, depending on the flight connection.
2. How much does an adjusting entry cost? Is one free? Don't only see just the flight price. Notice that there may be additional costs.
3. Search for short connections. You choose: Travel 38 or 24 hours? 1, 2 or 3 stopovers?
4. The baggage allowance is not that important. What's the use of 30kg free luggage when you need to drag it all throughout Australia on your back? Australian LowCost carriers normally have a baggage allowance of about 15kg. As soon as you already arrive with 30kg, you are bound to take expensive flights.
5. Should you plan to make a stopover on your way back, for example if you want to travel Asia, you do well to search for a flight connection via Southeast Asia. You have many good and cheap connections from there to all Asia (e.g. with AirAsia; roundtrip to Bali from Singapore ca. 100€, much cheaper than from Beijing,e.g.). But it depends on were you plan to go.
